In brief...
The project, the complete regeneration of the popular visitor attraction, described as “a landmark of historic, cultural and architectural significance”, is set to be one of the most globally innovative architectural structures recognised since its original construction.
Having established their capability to deliver the project, our client wanted to ensure that project delivery was progressing as planned. After supporting them with the successful tender submission, Cube Construction Consultants was asked to deliver a project review, as a touch point to provide an independent review of progress, coordination, process implementation and supply chain management.
"Cube once again slotted into our team seamlessly at a vital stage in the build process to provide an objective assessment for effective project delivery. Their alternative perspective and professionalism were much appreciated in focusing the core delivery team and implementing best practice across all elements of this major regeneration programme."
Construction Project Director
It’s about what could be better
Following a successful start, they wanted an independent review of the project to date. It’s always about what could be better, so Cube focus on the reality of programme progress, procurement status, client relationships, design development and supply chain management.
With an inherent knowledge of the project, having contributed to the technical coordination within the tender submission, not only did Cube have the right experience to fit in with their project team, we also had an understanding of the complexity of the build, the project challenges and best practice deliverables identified within the bid document.
This insight into key project milestones set the base line for the project review, a necessity given the incredibly unique nature of the building.
Our focus and independent perspective gave the divisional director and project leadership team an objective appraisal of performance indicators. These observations were turned into practical recommendations to positively impact the project completion.
Proactive planning, procurement, design management, quality…It’s all in the review
It was essential for our client to be better able to review the practicalities of their project processes. How do they facilitate the deliverables and client needs? Is the process being implemented to accurately report and monitor the project status? What does live documentation tell us about any new project priorities?
Working with their project team we evaluated all contributing project documentation to establish the baseline of Health and Safety performance, design development, programme, procurement, and supply chain engagement. This information then provided the opportunity to consider next actions.
In this particular case, design development had drained resources and delayed formal procurement, so the programme critical path was adjusted to reflect the actual procurement status and amend the build sequence to minimise delays and accommodate the outstanding design development periods.
Contributing construction expertise
Drawing on Mark’s extensive construction delivery background and expertise, our project reviews helped provide a clear path of recommendations based on the live project status.
"Challenging team relationships and supply chain complications only serve to narrow objective planning on the project, so our independent approach provides complete visibility of the whole project and offers best practice options for the team to implement."
